Storm Soccer Club

Storm Soccer Club offers high quality and affordable soccer for players of all ages and ability levels. Players come to Storm Soccer at different stages in their soccer career. Some play purely for fun while others aspire to make Provincial and National Teams.

Storm Soccer Club was officially formed as a non-profit organisation in 2010 and quickly grew in reputation. As of today, Storm has members from Dartmouth, Halifax, Cole Harbour, Eastern Passage, Porters Lake, and Waverly.  Storm’s Soccer program has been designed to promote a fun and energetic style of play, enabling the youth from our community to reach their full potential in the sport, whilst building true camaraderie.

Storm coaches, parents and players regularly attend the Resolutes Club, and we sponsor Storm each year to ensure they can continue providing quality soccer programs to the youth in our community.

Resolutes Metro Pool Team

The Resolutes Club couldn’t be prouder of our Metro Pool Team who are part of the Halifax Metro Pool League. The 8-ball league was formed in 1972 with four clubs - The Painters Club, The Civic Workers Club, The Carpenters Club and The Steamfitters Club - and had a membership of approximately 80 players. Since then, it has grown into the oldest and largest pool league in Nova Scotia, with over 600 players.

Our Metro Team plays on Monday evenings against teams across the HRM and is ranking within the Top Five in the league!

Resolutes Senior Basketball Team

In 1977 a group of 15 basketball players were looking for a regular game. We found a gym at the Abbie Lane Hospital where we started playing for two hours every Thursday night. This was a diverse group of men from all walks of life, most with mediocre basketball skills but a love for the game.

The rules of the game then were the same then as they are now: Divide the group into two teams. Games to 11 with 1 point for 1 basket and you have to win by 2. Call your own fouls.

Our style of play… easy does it, no aggressive play, pass the damn ball, and lots of friendly chirping. If you don’t fit in you don’t get asked back to play.

Our basketball club is now in its 46th season of men’s recreational basketball. We have three players in their 70’s, several in their 60’s, some in their 50’s and a group of “young” fellows under 40. We’ve had at least five sons playing with us over the years. We always joked that if necessary we could all start playing wheelchair ball and we would have cup holders for our beers!

Over the years we have had numerous road trips to Cape Breton, Moncton, Truro, and Montreal to play similar “fat boy” clubs. We always end the year with a golf tournament and barbeque, and regularly we will have parties with our wives and sweethearts.

The Res is the perfect spot for a post-game meal and libation. The club is nearby our gym (Armbrae Academy), the wait staff really looks out for us, club management supports us with donations which we put towards uniforms, road trips, gym rental, etc. The food is excellent and great value. The Club was made for our group. Our basketball club also fits beautifully with the Resolutes Club stated objects - “the promotion of athletic and physical improvement of its members and to encourage social activity of its members within the community”. You will find a group of 8-12 of us at the Club every Thursday night after ball. Come by and say hello, and buy us a beer!

Initially this group was all about the ball. The ball is still important but now it’s all about the camaraderie… the chirping on the floor, the stupid jokes in the locker room after the game, the beers and burgers at the Res after the game, and the road trips and parties. We have such a great group, a group that is so diverse in backgrounds, all brought together by a love for the game and that weekly Thursday night getaway.

And remember: "You don't stop playing because you get old. You get old because you stop playing.”

We also sponsor the Grand Salami Softball Team.
